Fair Play Campaign

Fair Play is one of the programs of FIFA. The main objective of the Fair Play program is to increase sportsmanship and the prevention of discrimination in the game of football. This also further involves programs for minimizing racism in the game of football. Fait Play is one such program that extends outside of football and trying to support charities and other organizations which improve conditions all over the world. We can also say that Fair Play popularizes the game of football amongst the football supporters and people all over the world. Read on to know more about Fair Play and its main principles.

Fair Play program has certain principles and the principles can be summed up as – Playing fair, Playing to win but has to admit defeat with dignity, Observe the laws of the game, Respect opponents, team-mates, referees, officials & spectators, Promote the interests of football, Honor those who defend football’s good reputation, Reject corruption, drugs, racism, violence, gambling and other dangers to our sport, Help others to resist corrupting pressures, Denounce those who attempt to discredit the sport and the use football to make a better world. These are the basic principles behind Fair Play campaign.

FIFA & UEFA generally have awards which are usually given to the individuals or a group of people who actually promoted the spirit of Fair Play both within and outside of football. However, there are also certain awards given to the team which has cleanest record during the finals of the FIFA World Cup. Presently there are six awards. These awards include the Golden Ball, the Golden Boot, the Golden Glove Award, the Best Young Player Award, FIFA Fair Play Trophy and the Most Entertaining Team. The Golden Ball award is given to the best player.

The Golden Boot award is for the top goal scorer. Considering about the Golden Glove Award, this is given to the best goalkeeper. The Best Young Player Award is for the best player under 21 years of age at the start of the calendar year. The FIFA Fair Play Trophy is for the team with the best record of fair play. And the Most Entertaining Team award is for the team that has entertained the public most during the World Cup final tournament, as determined by the poll of football supporters.
